Back in the 1980’s, I had an HF antenna called a Carolina Windom at my in-laws QTH. Worked really great! Unfortunately, a hurricane brought down one of the trees it was attached to and my then father-in-;law thought it was “just wire” and dumpstered it before telling me. I’ve new-build Windom’s from various manufacturers/dealers. But, the all lack the radiating coax element of 21′ that runs between the 4:1 balun in the middle of the “dipole” and a line isolator that the coax from the shack goes into.
My questions are:
What’s the closest version available today to the Carolina Windom?
If I were to homebrew a 21′ length of RG-8X and run it between another manufacturer’s Windom and another third-party line isolator, how much of an approximation would I have to a “Carolina Windom”
